The Summer School is open to anyone with an interest in film. You don’t need to be a student at HFF or any other film school. No prior filmmaking experience or formal degree is required (though recommended for some courses). Applicants under 18 are welcome but must provide written parental consent.

Yes, please submit your application in English, as some of the instructors may not speak German/other languages. While we do not require formal proof of English proficiency for the workshops, a level of around C1 is strongly recommended so you can follow and actively participate in the workshops.

Absolutely! Only make sure that they don’t run at the same time.

We will notify you about the outcome of your application within a few weeks after the application deadline. Please make sure the email address in your application is correct and also check your spam folder.

On most days, courses run from 9 am to 5 pm, weekdays. Depending on your workshop, some sessions or homework may be due on weekends. Class sizes are kept small, between 10 and 20 participants.

This varies by workshop. Some courses include preparatory materials or reading tasks beforehand. You will receive all relevant information ahead of the start date.

Usually no. Equipment is provided by HFF for use during the workshop. Some courses
may have specific requirements, which will be communicated when you register.

Most workshops take place fully in person at HFF Munich. The only exception is Script in 23 Days, offered in a hybrid format. Check out the courses page for further information.

Varies depending on the course. Please refer to the individual course pages for exact pricing. The fee covers participation in the workshop only. Accommodation, travel, meals, and other personal expenses are not included.

Once your registration is confirmed, you will receive an invoice. Payment is due before the course begins. Details on accepted payment methods will be provided with your invoice.

If we cancel a course, you will receive a full refund of your tuition fee. Please note that costs for accommodation or travel already booked cannot be refunded. We strongly recommend booking flexible or refundable options ahead of time.

No, participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. We recommend booking early, as getting a place to stay ca be tricky and expensive during summer. If you need guidance, feel free to contact us and we can share some suggestions.

The HFF campus is wheelchair accessible. If you have specific accessibility needs or requirements, please contact us before registering so we can ensure your full participation in the workshop.

Work you create individually during the workshop is yours to use. For work created as part of a group effort (e.g. a collaborative film or script), usage rights must be agreed upon with the other participants and instructors involved. Please get in touch if you have specific questions about a project.

Yes, all participants who complete a course receive an official certificate of participation from HFF Munich. No graded diploma or formal academic credential is issued.

We recommend that all participants have valid health insurance for the duration of their stay in Munich. Liability coverage is also recommended. You are not required to provide proof of insurance as part of the application process, but please ensure adequate coverage. Especially if you are traveling from abroad.
